Help me be the catalyst of learning for 100 amazing students! I teach at a Title 1 school in Colorado, and unfortunately, we have the heart but just need the funds! I teach Reading, and it's difficult to teach the skills when the books are scarce.
I am on a mission to push my students to love reading. It is a given fact that reading promotes language acquisition, and I am certain that my English Language Learners, which make up eighty percent of my class, will benefit most from this donation. Additionally, reading encourages literacy development and leads to achievement and overall success in school. As a child, I grew to love reading with the help and consistency of my teachers, and in conjunction with great literature. Along with my steadiness in regards to teaching, I am hopeful that a generous donor can assist with the great literature. I am requesting forty copies, or classroom set, of ‘Of Mice and Men’ by John Steinbeck.
I have had the amazing opportunity to make use of the novel as a read-aloud in years past, and the feedback from my students is overwhelming. A buzz exists within the hallways regarding Lennie’s actions or George’s inconsistent treatment towards his friend. I have witnessed the ongoing engagement and would now like to submerge my students in the literature, in hopes to be the catalyst for independent reading.
I am requesting a class set of the book 'Of Mice and Men.' My students and I will read in literature circles, discussing the many aspects of human nature within the novel. Currently, my students still have not fallen in love with reading, and I am certain that this novel will combat that. I know that once they read this book, their lives will be changed forever.
You have the opportunity to open the eyes, minds, and souls of 100 amazing students. We have the interest and the desire, we just need a little help on the take-off.
