Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Class 201 students come in excited and eager to learn; some who have just entered the country with no English. I hope to improve students language acquisition and make them more fluent in English and ready to accomplish their dreams.
My student are all from low-income households and learning English.
Many have just arrived to the country and have big dreams and aspirations of becoming doctors, lawyers, and teachers. I feel great pride and honor in the small role I have to help bring them closer to their aspirations.
My school is a Title I school where most students are low-income. Half of the student body is not proficient in English. Nevertheless, teachers and students strive for success and work their hardest to reach goals.
My Project
Student will use Ipads to utilize interactive phonics apps that will teach them to read. Additionally, students will use these Ipads to engage in research projects where they study about specific topics such as dinosaurs, plants, and sharks. Newcomers to the country do not have technology at home and have little opportunity to engage in interactive mediums.
Second graders will experience how technology can help us learn in positive ways.
My newcomers from Ecuador, Mexico, China, and Bangladesh will also have an opportunity to use interactive apps to learn alphabets and phonics in an engaging way.
