My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds including traditional family homes, foster homes, and multi-family homes. My students are at a variety of educational levels, but each and every student in my classroom will grow educationally this year. Many of my students come from low income households, in less than ideal situations but they all come excited for what each day holds. My school is located in rural Arkansas. We are a part of a magnet school system with Math and Science being our focus. I am proud to say that so many students have chosen to attend our school that we are overflowing with students; and what a wonderful problem to have!

My Project

These centers will be a fun take on skills my students' need to practice math on a daily basis throughout their year in first grade. Due to location and poverty level of my community, many of my students do not have the opportunity to practice their math skills outside the classroom. These centers will give my early finishers the tools they need to perfect their fluency skills, and a fun way to help my struggling students master these math concepts.

The materials will be used on an almost a daily basis to reinforce math concepts we learn in class.

These materials will help to make my students fluent in the math facts. My students will have the ability to grab a center to practice addition/subtraction fluency, place value, time, measurement, money, and more. As my students get finished with their math assignment for the day, they will grab a center and a buddy and find a quiet place to continue learning these various math skills. While my students are working independently, I can pull small groups of students who are struggling with a specific skill. The timer will be used so that each student can see the amount of time left in each center from anywhere around the room.
