My students need centers that will help me close the literacy gap they came into school with. These centers will help them develop their Phoenician awareness, vocabulary and phonic skills necessary to become successful readers!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us close the educational gap for my eager students! My diverse class lives in a low income neighborhood; many of my students did not have the opportunity to go to pre-school. With the high standards today for Kindergarten it is difficult for students who did not attend pre-school to meet these standards. As their teacher I need to fill the gaps that my students come in with, and I need a lot of efficient materials to do so, no time can be wasted in our class! With materials from this project they will develop their literacy skills in order to become successful life long learners and readers.

My students come to school excited to learn each and every day!

I am so excited to see their faces when they receive literacy centers from generous donors. My students will be so grateful for all the new learning materials we will have! With my students' enthusiasm and these new materials we can help close the educational gap for my students and for generations of students that will come into my classroom.

My Project

During small reading group time I am able to meet the individual needs of students; during this time I need to have students not in my small group engaged in beneficial activities independently. It is difficult in kindergarten to have activities that students can do on their own, help them progress their literacy development and that are engaging. The materials I have chosen meet all of that criteria; this will allow me to focus on my small group. With these centers my students can grow on their own and feel proud of themselves during independent center time. These centers will fill in the gaps my students came into kindergarten and allow them to achieve at the same levels as their peers who were able to attend pre-school. Let's close the educational gap together!
