We Can All Be Compassionate

Help me give my students materials to learn about compassion and kindness. The world needs more of it!

My Project

A part of my job as a 1st grade teacher is to teach about feelings such as compassion and kindness. We learn how to share, make friends, express our emotions, and most importantly how to be a compassionate and kind person.

It doesn't matter what age you are, compassion and kindness matter and it helps make our world a better place.

For this project, I am requesting a stuffed animal that each student will get a turn taking care of in order to learn about what it means to be compassionate. Students will need to think about its feelings in order to take care of it kindly and properly. Students will also read "I Am Love: A Book of Compassion" to learn about being compassionate.

Additionally, I am requesting prizes that will be given to students when I see them demonstrating acts of compassion and kindness in our classroom. After learning about the meaning of compassion, I will be looking for students to take initiative and help alleviate the suffering of their classmates when they see someone is hurt or upset. Lastly, I am requesting markers and papers so that students can draw and write about everything they learned. Students will also be asked to define compassion.
