Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kids are building a zoo, and they need books so they can become experts on animals.
My fourth graders live in a working class and immigrant neighborhood. Most of them are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and all of them love to learn. Our Title I school is an important safe haven for my kids, who are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.
My Project
At the beginning of the school year, our class decided to put on a zoo for the school. We are acquiring live animals and plants, and we'll decorate our classroom as various ecosystems like the desert and rain forest. What my kids need are lots of books about animals so they can become expert docents at the zoo. They will use these books, in addition to the Internet, to do their research. When you're doing research, it's really important to get your information from several sources. These books will give my students more reference opportunities. We are asking for numerous books about animals, including howler monkeys, kangaroos, snow leopards, spitting cobras, and tarantulas.
With your generous donation, my students will be able to become experts in their field of zoology. Some kids will study primates, others will study big cats, and still others will study animals of the oceans. We bought a zoo, and now we want to learn more about it. My students and I thank you!
