We are Writers!

My students need 3-ring binders for our writing workshop. We use binders to organize our writing pieces. We will use post-its for writing conferences, dry erase boards and journals as writing tools!

My Students

My students are hard-working and creative, focused on being leaders and learners! Nearly 80% of our school receives free or reduced rate lunches, making us a high-poverty school. We are located in a working class, low-income, diverse urban area, just on the outskirts of a major metro area.

Despite the challenges that many of our students come to school with, they are dedicated students and incredibly hard workers!

Many students don't have their basic needs met, which makes learning a challenge. Things like school supplies and some of the "extras" for a school year can be hard to get for our families.

My Project

I plan to use writing binders for organization during our writing workshop. Each student will get a binder, looseleaf paper, and a red and green folder (which I already have.) The binders allow for easy organization as we take our writing pieces through the writing process. The green folder will be for pieces "in progress," while the red folder is for published pieces.

"We are Writers" is all about encouraging students to live a writers' life!

Composition notebooks will be used as writing journals and allow for students to collect ideas and inspirations for their writing. We will use the post-it notes and the dry-erase boards during writing conferences and strategy groups. Post-its work great as a tool for a few notes for students to work on. The dry erase boards are a wonderful tool for practicing everything from spelling to math to use as a quick assessment tool.
