Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If I can think about it, I can talk about it. If I can talk about it, I can write about it" ~ Lucy Calkins. My students are writers and need the materials to publish their ideas.
My students are 5 and 6 year-old children who live in a low socio-economic community.
All my students are English Language Learners. They are great kids, but many times have to deal with difficult situations in their lives. Though our school may not be located in a great area, we work hard to give our students an inviting place to learn, a chance to experience new and memorable things, and create an opportunity for a better life.
My Project
My students write everyday. We explore different types of genres-from narratives to how-to books to informational writing. Due to money shortages, we lack some materials to make our published pieces special.
I plan to use the white paper to make copies of different types of writing pages, some with 1 line, some with 2 or more lines. This allows me to differentiate writing levels between students. It also gives students the freedom to pick their preferred writing page. The colored papers will be used as options for their cover page. This gives students a chance to express their individuality. Students will be able to use the various markers to illustrate and color their writing in their own special way.
Students get very excited when they get to use special paper or markers instead of crayons.
These materials will be used mainly for our writer's workshop, which will give the students more enthusiasm and motivation to write and to publish. They will be proud to display their work and share with others.
