Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in a small farming town in the Central Salinas Valley. My students have a lifetime ahead of them to learn and grow as individuals. Even early on in this school year I can see that I have a classroom full of little innovators, investigators and experimenters! I am looking forward to helping them discover all that they can be.
STEM and STEAM projects are our focus!
Kindergarten classes are so busy laying down the educational foundation with the basics such as letters, sounds and numbers that sometimes the sciences and arts are set on the back burner. I would like to change that in our classroom!
I would like to bring out the scientists and artists in each of my wonderful kiddos. This is the time, early in their education, to grab their attention in these subjects and help to build a life long love for the arts and sciences! We are a Title 1 school; therefore I feel it is important to offer as much to these beautiful minds as possible. I have vowed to provide that for these students this year and I am hoping that this project will help with that.
My Project
The materials I have requested will provide my students with the opportunity to explore and learn. Science is all about discovery and my students lack materials and supplies that would enable them to become the artists, engineers and scientists they may not even know that they want to be yet!
When you are five you love to build the tallest block tower in the class, now lets expand on that!
The Tinkertoy's, Playground Engineering & Design STEM Set along with the Lego's will hopefully encourage students to move beyond their tall block towers and build even more imaginative structures. The Magnet set and book will help my kindergartners experiment with push and pull! The wobble chairs will allow some of my students the freedom needed to be more creative with all of these STEM and STEAM projects we are working towards.
There is an artist of some sort in each and every one of us! The smocks and paint brushes will possibly help us discover the next Picasso! The kinetic sand will encourage fine motor growth and who knows, maybe the creator of something comparable to The Statue of David!! All we have to do is encourage our students to use their imagination and let their fingers explore! With your help this may become a reality!
