My Students

Most of my students lack the motivation to learn. They come to school already in a bad mood and it is up to me to get them to smile and enjoy learning. All of the math and reading materials students will love using and show excitement for learning.

My students come from poverty stricken homes and most don't know how good it feels to succeed.

My classroom is a 1st grade integrated room in New York. A lot of my students come from broken homes or live with other relatives because their parents have made a wrong choices in their lives. All of my students are visual learners and my school doesn't have the resources that the teaches need and technology is one of these resources. I have 11 special education students in my room that need more support. I want to ensure that I am doing everything I can to help them succeed. I can't tell you how many times I have looked over and seen the tears of my students because they are frustrated. They have it in them to be great learners and it is my responsibility to make this happen. The students I work with need quality materials and hands on materials. They need to learn in a variety of ways and need to know what it feels like to be successful.

My Project

My students need some basic items like the mailboxes, writing notebooks and folders to keep them organized and to maximize learning time. The math materials such as the addition and subtraction flash card center will allow students to learn independently. The fluency phone center I know the kids will love. Not only will I be able to hear each student read into the phone, but I will be able to talk to them. Some students are loud readers and now all of the students in the small group will be able to read without hearing others read. The pocket charts will be great visuals for the schedule and for centers. The bags will allow students to bring home reading books every night and will make them more responsible for their own learning. I assign reading homework, but so many of my students lack the reading books at home to even complete the reading. Now my class will get the extra practice they need. All of the materials listed will put a smile on each student's face!

Not only will my students have the materials such as notebooks, folders, and mailboxes that they need, but they will become more responsible.

They will be able to take control of their own learning, which will set them up for success in future grades. Since my district provides just the basics, your donations really help me get the materials to make my students successful. Not only are they successful, but they are happy. With the hardships at home, I am glad I can make school fun!
