I teach 2 classes, altogether 34 3rd grade students English Language Arts. Ten of my students are special education students that learn daily in an inclusion classroom. They have accommodations due to learning disabilities, autism, speech, developmental delays, and birth defects. I also have 4 other students who receive accommodations for dyslexia and/or ADD/ADHD characteristics. Mixed in this group are 20 other students who do not receive accommodations, but are all unique in their own way.
If a child cannot learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.
I will continue to strive towards this everyday for my students because they deserve the best education. Not 10 of them, or 20 of them, but all of them.
My Project
I would love to incorporate the QBall into my daily instruction. This will allow my students of all learning levels and abilities to engage with the lesson and interact with each other through discussion. Each reading lesson there is a discussion piece and this when I plan to use the Qball. It also can be used for review, vocabulary, spelling, or grammar skills.
If real learning is taking place, our classrooms must be dependent on the collaboration of learners, not solely on the knowledge of teachers.
Students learn better by sharing ideas with each other. They gain confidence, become better thinkers, and eloquent speakers. They learn how to explain their thinking and extend their ideas through collaboration with their peers. The Qball will be the perfect addition to helping this become apparent in our classroom.
