My students are from a Title I school in the suburbs of Detroit. The Transitional Kindergarten program gives children from all cultures and various incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive within the district before going to kindergarten. My energetic TK students enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.
They love to read books, draw pictures, use online programs, build structures, and compare, sort, and pretend play throughout the day.
They light up as they proudly identify letters and discover sounds. They love to learn!
My Project
Everyday we do stations where students are working on skills independently that we are working on during whole group instruction. I want my students to be able to practice skills in a fun way that is at their own level.
These Amazon Kindle Fire tablets will allow students to practice reading and math skills at their own level.
Some of my students are just learning to recognize the letters of the alphabet, while others are ready to put those letters and sounds together to make words and start reading. The same is true for Math skills. Some students are recognizing the numbers by name, while others are ready to compare quantities and do simple equations. By using the tablets, I can use different programs to meet each student’s need. My students have shown a love for learning and these tablets will enrich their reading and math skill practice.
