My students need a variety of items (Mag Formers, building sets and storage boxes) to explore their multiple intelligences, satisfy their need to create, and learn through STEM exploration and play.

My Students

I believe creating a safe, comfortable, and open ended learning environment is key to the success of all children. I work very hard each day to reach the needs of my students. Most of my students come from low to middle income homes and with cuts to funding there is not money in our budgets for anything outside of basic supplies.

My students are all unique, talented, and have multifaceted interests and abilities.

Students today need choice, including the ability to choose their own learning path to some degree. No two students are the same, nor do I expect them to be excited about the same learning opportunities at all times. I do believe all will benefit from exploration and variety and I am excited to see their increased participation and growth in their lifelong learning journeys. Students will be more attentive when given the choice to engage in learning activities through multiple opportunities and avenues.

My Project

I am creating a Makerspace area in my classroom for my students to utilize in multiple ways. Students need Keva Planks, MagFormers, and a Lego wall to build. We also need Play Doh to create and construct. The Snap Circuits will be used to encourage engineering. Students will keep the space organized and tidy with the storage bins and baskets.

Students will be able to learn through creative exploration, tinkering, inventing and engineering using the multiple supplies provided by this project.

When using a Makerspace, kids get to explore their abilities with no end in sight.

My hope is to get started with these supplies and build a space that will grow with my students year to year.
