This proposal is not for a traditional activity but rather for a piece of equipment that will allow us to work in comfort during the sweltering summer months. My class and I are requesting the donation of an indoor air conditioner. At first glance, this may seem like an odd request however, the conditions under which we are forced to work are truly intolerable and unhealthy. The school in which we are housed is located in one of the poorest sections of the South Bronx in New York City. It is also about to celebrate its one hundredth year of service. Consequently, the issue of ventilation and air conditioning is a vital concern to us. Many of my students, several of whom are asthmatic, must carry frozen water to school every day in order to endure the stifling heat of the summer months. The heat also results in making my children tense and irritable which directly impacts on their ability to focus on their schoolwork. It is with these concerns in mind that I am requesting the donation of an indoor air conditioner so that students may learn in comfort like their peers in more modern buildings. Please take a moment to consider this request. As stated earlier, it may seem a bit odd but it is truly a necessity that would improve student performance for my children. Thank you in advance for considering this proposal.
