This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We teach 163 Kindergarten to Fifth Grade ELL students. We are a diverse community serving students from many backgrounds and cultures. The school receives 68% free and reduced lunch. Our desire is to have a classroom collection of resources to help our students become better learners, fluent readers and speakers in English, and accomplished writers. Our students are encouraged and challenged on a daily basis, to apply their knowledge to real-world situations. They read for a minimum of fifteen minutes daily in the classroom. They spend most of their day actively involved in hands-on learning and experiments.
The students are eager learners, who are excited about school and learning.
Our school is a Title I school with over 60 percent receiving free or reduced lunch. Although the students face economic challenges at home, they are excited, from the time they enter school, until they leave. They look forward to learning new concepts and ideas, exploring through the use of manipulatives and technology, and sharing what they've learned through projects and application.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting are excellent tools to help students of all ages and levels to answer narrative, informational, and persuasive prompts effectively. These teaching books also guide the teachers on how to use the writing lessons for classroom and homework activities. Each lesson starts with a reading passage. The students are then given a writing prompt. The students are also given a rubric to use as they write their responses. As the student’s writing responses improve, the reading passages and writing prompts become more challenging. Teachers can also use grade level books below or above a student’s current grade in order to meet their needs.
