My Students

I teach Pre-K to a group of inquisitive four and five year olds. Each class of children that I have taught, they have shown their interests different from years past. This year proves no different.

My students are growing up in a technologically savvy world.

Luckily for them, they have been exposed to technology since they have been able to sit up, from music to the television and then to computers. It is amazing how children these days can easily watch you maneuver around a screen or watch as you push a few buttons and they can repeat these steps easily. My students were shown only a few times how to navigate around a much loved website and they were able to go to the areas that they wanted to go to. While it is important for my students to learn how to use technology, it is doubly important to monitor what it is they are doing. I want to now use technology to aid in their learning. The LeapFrog company has a hand held "reader", called the Tag Reading System, that "reads" the words on the pages of the book. Students are then able to follow along as they point the wand over the words.

My Project

I have the books for my students to read, but don't have enough readers for my students to read with. I did not anticipate the excitement that my students would have with the TAG reader. Nor did I expect my students to be extremely sad at not being able to read and hear the books. Extra Tag Readers will make the TAG books more accessible to my students. My students are in varying stages of learning and progress. I want to provide a method where they can try to read on their own with help from Leap Frog. My students can practice reading words in their interactive reading books and build their confidence. By having the Tag Reading System in my classroom, not only will it help differentiate the learning of my students, it will also help to build reading confidence in each of my students. Each child will require a different cartridge based on his or her developmental skills or interests.

You can help to place the Tag Reading System into the hands of my students, you are helping to provide yet another outlet for my students to learn from.

Children will be able to listen and follow direction as they are spoken on the monitor. Their fine motor skills will also be improved by using their fingers to move around the screen. Through games, their cognitive skills will be used to determine outcomes.
