My Students
Look out, we have new readers entering the school! When I asked my students yesterday if they knew how to read and write they said, "we can't do that!" I told them that they will be reading and writing very soon!
I have 22 kindergarten students in my class.
I find the kindergarteners to be very hard working children. They come in every morning very eager to begin their work. When I don't have time to do an activity that they are used to, they keep reminding me that we have not done it yet. The school they attend is a Kindergarten through Fifth grade.
My Project
The leveled reading books are a great resource to help the children improve with their reading skills. During Guided Reading I show the students strategies of using picture clues, sounding out, and rereading the sentence to figure out the tricky word. I will use the leveled books in independent reading time to help them use the skills taught in guided reading. The literacy centers will help teach the children how to build words, read, and write the words. The word wand will be used during shared reading time. I will have the children frame and find a sight word. After finding it, I will chose a student to come and use the wand to show the other students the word.
Reading and writing are very important in Kindergarten.
The students start the year without knowing how to write their name. It is very important for me to teach them how to use letters and sounds to form words and write sentences.
