Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach English and my students are sophomores in a high- need community. We service a population of 1,700 consisting of African-American, Hispanic and Caucasian students as well as others.
Students will create their own internet radio program where they interview community members on various teen and directed topics. We have nearly everything we need to create this radio broadcast program but the right type of digital audio recorders. Without them, the audio quality will cancel out all of the other segments of the student created program.
We need 6 digital audio kits for students to use in their radio broadcast. Audio is a vital segment of any broadcast. The audio of their program will suffer severely without the right equipment. One of the added benefits of student created broadcasting is that the students learn to be analytical about their own work. What they create for public presentation has a deepened impact as far as their style of public presentation. They, not a teacher, decided if something needed to be re-recorded. They learn to recognize when certain words need more emphasis. They become their own critic and took ownership of their project. They gain much more in articulation skills than they would have by simply reading aloud from a textbook. Overall, It is a much better way for them to polish their public speaking, interaction skills and writing technique.
