"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!" - Dr. Seuss
Students come in daily to our school library looking for books that are interesting, and we are looking to offer more creative options for students.
Our kids have stories to share, and with this project they will become authors. Our school is full of diverse students PK-4th who are eager to learn.
We are a Title I school, with 77% of our population receiving free and reduced lunches. A full 47% of our students are learning English as a second language. At least 60% of our population is considered "at-risk." We are a family at our school. It is a special place where students feel loved, included, and important. Our library is an inviting place for students to make their own reading choices and find a comfortable place to read for awhile.
My Project
Our students come in to check out books written by thousands of different authors. With this project, students will become the authors and illustrators of their own books. The library is open before school and students have many stations to choose from. Some are building activities, such as building bricks, straws and connectors, and more. We added games this year. Others are creative and like coloring. The addition of a station where students can write and illustrate their own books will be exciting and engaging for our early comers. It will bring the students back multiple times to complete, which will encourage them to get to school early. After completion, we will display in the library for a time before sending the finished projects home.
