My students need a Wonder Workshop Dash Robot, Qubits STEM Educational Toy Building Set, and other building/creating sets for makerspace programming so that they may learn and create in brand new ways.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school with all students receiving free breakfast and lunch daily. Our students are so special. They are smart, funny, kind, courageous, and eager to learn yet. Even with some of the hurtles that they face, they love coming to the library to read, create, learn about the world around them and conduct research for projects and for new knowledge. The library is an equitable learning commons for ALL students regardless of learning style or background.
My Project
My students need a Wonder Workshop Dash Robot, Qubits STEM Educational Toy Building Set and other building/creating sets for makerspace STEM programming so that they may learn and create in brand new ways. Creating makerspace activities in the library is a wonderful inclusive opportunity to serve students from all backgrounds and abilities, including English Language Learners. Equitable access to makerspace resources is also extremely important for students that come from lower income families.
Some might ask "What is makerspace?" It is where students can work on their own projects while learning new, unique maker skills through ongoing, interest-based projects and peer learning.
Makerspace also offers a collaborative space where students experience hands-on learning while developing new skills. Or, you can just call it a space where you get to build and create cool stuff in new ways!
The Wonder Workshop Dash Robot will allow students to code and work on problem solving. I have seen other students utilize these in other schools, and they are extremely popular and engaging. The KEVA planks and Qubits set will allow them to create structures using engineering principals and STEM coursework. The opportunities for learning with these materials is endless and will offer almost 400 students an outlet to be actively engaged in their learning.
