Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure of teaching all of the students in the building. I get to know them on a personal level. I also have to be strong because, in this city school district, I hear many heartbreaking stories. They have tough lives with a lot of gang activity, drug use, and family issues. I open up my classroom to many of the community organizations, so our students have somewhere else to go. I also open my classroom door to all of my students at any time, for anything. I try to introduce them to healthier lifestyle choices any way I can.
My Project
Items like these are always needed. I cannot begin to tell you how many females come down to my room on a daily basis in need of pads or other hygiene products. Even though laws were passed, the quality and quantity is never sufficient. Also, the young ladies feel more comfortable coming to my room rather than going to the nurse. Having the sanitary pads for the young ladies allows me to have a relationship with my students. They know they can trust me and come to me for help and guidance. The look of panic on their faces when they arrive at my door is quickly fixed when I give them what they need...always thanks to you.
