My Project
This is my first self-contained Special Education classroom, and, when observing the students, I noticed that to calm down, they either ran in the hallway or sat in a corner, sometimes on the floor in the classroom. There is no comfort in either of these situations.
Having a cozy area where they can sit and read a book or draw a picture is ideal for the days that just seem to long for them.
The raceway rug will be an additional support for the younger kids in the class as they can take the opportunity to build their imagination getting from point A to point B. LEGO and sensory tiles will add to this calming strategy as they let their imaginations soar, building homes and buildings along the roadway or race a car around the tracks.
