We All Have Needs!

My students need specific instruction and flexible scheduling to be successful throughout the school day. WE need flash cards, building shapes and more.

My Students

Being a teacher means you are a life-long learner, and supporting your students to be as well. I am a teacher in a building that has opened my eyes to teaching students with severe needs. All students that attend my school have IEP's for various behavioral, emotional/social, and communication needs. My program specifically contains 4 students with a diagnosis of Autism. These students struggle with communicating and expressing appropriate behaviors.

I truly believe that these children need all supports possible to be successful in their futures; this has been something I have become very passionate about.

I learn about myself more each day, while doing everything I possibly can to give these children the best opportunity and support they need.

I have one kindergarten student, two first grade students, and one second grade student. All my students require many visual supports during lessons and transitions and a unique learning when planning and instructing these lessons.

My Project

While shopping for this project, I included items that would support our students throughout the entire day. For reading instruction, I included the guided reading books. The students in my classroom struggle with basic reading instruction. These will provide my classroom with appropriately leveled books that would keep their interest. For math instruction, I found many manipulatives that would support our curriculum. All of my students are visual learners and need hands on instruction to fully grasp the concepts.

Lastly, I also included a few play items to help ensure my students have motivation to complete the tasks given.

At times, the students in my classroom struggle understanding why they need to complete tasks. After each learning block, they are able to choose a "working for" in hopes to create motivation for the students to work hard during reading and math lessons. Our classroom is currently struggling to motivate our students, due to our lack of ability to afford new and captivating choices.
