My Project

Puzzles seem to be a staple in most classrooms. Especially in Early Childhood classrooms, puzzles provide exploration on a variety of skills and areas of development. They also provide students with opportunities to communicate and form connections with peers, their teachers, and the world around them.

Before picking up writing and mark making tools, children work in so many ways to develop their hand and finger dexterity as well as their grip strength.

Puzzles are a great way for children to learn and develop these skills without even realizing they are learning! You may not realize it but puzzles give children the chance to work on early math skills including spatial awareness and shapes as well as critical thinking skills such as persistence and problem solving.

Currently in our classroom we have a few large floor puzzles and smaller alphabet puzzles so this project being funded will give my students even more puzzles to interact with. Including sets that come with puzzle holders will ensure that after play is done, children can confidently care for their environment by putting pieces away. Some of the sets I've included are especially good for beginning of the year by showcasing different families and emotions, while wooden maze type puzzles will encourage student collaboration and critical thinking as they work to complete it.
