I teach a self-contained support class of 14 boys. Their disabilities include Autism, Speech/language impairment, and specific learning disabilities. They love to be independent. They love to use all their senses to learn. Doing learning activities independently that have colorful pictures covering multiple skill levels will gives my students the confidence they need to boost their academic levels. We do a lot of small group learning with students that are on different levels of skills in our classroom. These fun learning activities will help engage all levels of learning.
My Project
My project was inspired by a donation from Real Salt Lake. I have never used this sight before, but Real donated money for each licensed teacher in our district and allowed us to summit our request through donors choose. I have enjoyed looking for items that will benefit my students and enhance their learning experience. The items I have chosen will help me run my classroom in a more efficient manner. It will make learning more engaging and fun for the students in my self-contained support class. I look forward to the excitement of my students when I introduce these new items to my class. My students do sight word sorts for spelling and then they work on phonics pages. They all finish at different rates. These games that I have chosen will be for when they are done with their work. They can work together which promotes teamwork and social skills. I will also use these products for small group learning activities.
