My Students

My school serves two different communities who promote and foster positive learning environments. They are incredibly deep thinkers who enjoy hands-on projects and practical learning. I like to pose real-life problems that they can apply their learning to something practical and meaningful.

They have the ability to excel, just need the belief to succeed.

Some students come from broken homes, are at a financial disadvantage, and some may not have solid family support or the confidence to excel in school, so any way to foster a positive learning "safe haven" is an absolute must in my classroom. My students need that place to feel welcome and safe to learn and their best potential and to have a sense of belonging in high school.

My Project

COVID-19 really impacts the way teachers teach and students learn. Imagining a blended learning environment, students will adopt cleanliness practices such as wiping down tables, chairs, and chrome books in a timely manner. This is very new to me as a teacher, as I must diligently remind students to pack up their work at the end of the class period, as well as handing out wipes and microfiber cloths, spraying each cloth to prompt students to wipe down the chrome book after each lesson. At the same time, I will clean the lab stations of equipment, with a sneeze guard partition in between the stations to support the health and safety protocols. All this, PLUS maintaining a positive learning environment for the students.

Being healthy and cleaning our workspace in the classroom is a community effort.

Students not only take this learning environment to clean their desks and areas, but also help them understand about COVID-19 and use preventative measures and practice to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The supplies I am requesting will assist students with added "hygiene" habits to their daily routine. The more safe practices they can learn to prevent themselves from being sick, then the better students can adopt these habits to their homes and classes and take pride to clean their workspace. The worry about catching COVID-19 will not be a factor, and engaged learning can take place again in the classroom.
