My Project
My classroom includeschildren ages 3 to 5 with a wide range of disabilities, including autism, speech and language delays, and developmental delays. My students come from richly diverse backgrounds and speak over five different home languages. Many are nonverbal or emerging communicators, and all benefit from visual learning and sensory-rich experiences.
To start the school year, I am planning an ocean theme that celebrates curiosity, emotion, and connection.
Wave is a wordless picture book that follows a young girl as she interacts playfully with the ocean. Its expressive illustrations speak volumes without any text—making it an ideal tool for building communication skills, encouraging participation, and creating an inclusive shared experience for children of all backgrounds and abilities.
With your support, each child in our class will receive their own copy of Wave to keep and share with their families at home. Many of the children in my class do not have access to books at home.
This not only fosters a love of reading, but also helps bridge the gap between home and school by inviting families into our classroom theme and learning goals. Because the book is wordless, it allows families to “read” and retell the story together in their home language, strengthening early literacy, cultural connections, and family engagement.
Books like Wave empower every child to access the world of stories—without needing to read words. This book gives voice to every child’s imagination, no matter their language or ability. Your donation will help build not just early reading skills, but confidence, joy, and a strong school-to-home connection.
Thank you for helping us ride this wave of inclusion, literacy, and learning!
