My students need an electricity presentation called "Watt's Current" from the Discovery Science Center to introduce them to the concept of electricity.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How do we get students interested in Science in a motivating way? Through an electrifying assembly of course!
My students are fourth graders in an large urban elementary school.
They are very curious and unfortunately with the push for reading and math, this is the first year that they consistently had science on a daily basis. I want to foster that curiosity and motivate them to learn more about electricity.
My Project
Having the Discovery Science Center's "Watt's Current" presentation will spark my students interest in electricity. It will give them the background knowledge necessary to dig deeper and apply this knowledge to the the experiments that we will conduct during the electricity unit. It will allow them to make connections to new learning as well.
Not only will this assembly motivate my 25 students, it will also be available to 125 other students in our school.
Having this opportunity will enhance the learning of our students and get them excited about learning about electricity.

Discovery Science Center
(It is a science assembly about electricity. Students will observe the power of electricity and learn about electrical circuits as a Science Center staff member operates a Tesla coil and an electrostatic generator. Students are invited to participate during the presentation.)
