Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! I am a first grade teacher at a title one school in Phoenix, Arizona. We are currently teaching online due to COVID 19. I meet with my kiddos on Zoom, two times a day. Most of my students have headphones and Chromebooks provided by the school. Wifi has been a little tricky. Some student have great internet connection, others have weak connection so we do what we can. We currently use Nearpod and Flipgrid as part of our daily Zoom lessons. My students also use Zearn, Dreambox, Spelling City, and Raz Kids to support reading and math instruction.
I would like to provide some hands-on STEM activities for my students, that we can do online together.
My goal is to send each student a STEM kit, to conduct experiments together online.
My Project
The Build a Waterway STEM Kit builds on children’s natural curiosity by providing the materials and freedom to explore. The funnels, measuring pitchers, connector tubes, blockers, and water wheel provide endless opportunities for child-guided learning.
Children will be encouraged to build, create, and invent on their own waterway system.
We will be able to offer unique hands-on learning opportunities to our low income families. These kits will promote learning, encourage exploration and engineering to many families who are not able to afford activities like this. We cannot wait to get started!
