I first experienced painting with watercolors five years ago over a summer break. I used YouTube and Googled tutorials and bought myself some basic supplies and begin experimenting. I loved it. It was comforting how forgiving watercolor painting is and how mistakes are either easily removed or can easily become a part of the picture. And I truly enjoyed the experience of creating art.
In April 2022, I first attempted to watercolor with my class, and they LOVED it.
They have told me very clearly that I NEED to do watercolor projects next year with class. And I am quite excited to do so!
I plan to teach my 2022-2023 class basic watercolor techniques at the beginning of the school year. We will then do at least one integrated watercolor project each quarter. We will paint scenes of our solar system, earth, sun, or eclipses to go with our science unit on space. We will paint settings/scenes to accompany the novels we are reading. We will paint scenes from ancient world history. And we will paints scenes to illustrate our creative writing.
The paints, brushes, paper, drawing pencils, and erasers are self-explanatory tools for art projects. The FrogTape will be used to mount the watercolor paper to the Artlicious Cardboard Sheets and help prevent the paper from buckling while it is wet. This will also protect the art while it is being made (possible over several days) and while it is drying. The spray bottles will be used to wet the paints quickly and let more of the pigment saturate the water.
