Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember your first pet that you were responsible for caring for.
My students are AP Environmental students who need lab materials for field work investigations.
Due to budget cuts there is not money available to take them on field-trips. However, I am trying to provide them with the same learning experiences in the classroom.
My students attend a small charter school in southern California of about six hundred students. They are primarily Title I students are receive free or reduced lunch. It is a high achieving school that lacks financial support due to budget constraints.
My Project
My students are building Eco-Columns and raising fish, shrimp, worms and various plants in them. They need phosphate, nitrogen and dissolved oxygen kits so they can monitor the levels of nutrients in their Eco-columns and make changes as necessary. They are taking their knowledge of chemical cycles and applying it to a real life experience that they are vested in.
This project will tie together various units such as the bio-geochemical cycles, land use, waste disposal among many others.
It will also allow students to create their own experiments using the scientific method.
