Our school was severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey, so now we are housed at our local high school. Even before the hurricane, our students faced many adversities because of their low socioeconomic status. Many of my students families had a difficult time meeting their daily basic needs. Despite my students' obstacles, they are great kids and still strive to be successful. Their efforts are many times thwarted because we don't have a variety of instructional materials available to us. Even with the lack of basic supplies, we still strive to be the best. Hurricane Harvey hit us, but it didn't kill us.
Since relocating after Hurricane Harvey sources are limited at this time. One drawback we face is that we are located on a second floor of another school and the water fountains do not work or if they do, the water is not clean drinkable water. We encourage our kiddos to bring a bottle of water and allow them to drink it during class; however, most kids are not able to do so. I am supplying bottles of water, but it is becoming very expensive to keep up with. The idea is to give my kiddos a 5-gallon water dispenser so they can have clean drinkable water. I'm also requesting non-spill bottle caps to prevent water spills when refilling the water dispenser and cups to pour the water in. The Lysol disinfecting wipes will be used to keep the water dispenser clean from germs.
Water makes everything grow, and I want my kiddos to grow and be the best at whatever they put their minds to!
Due to Hurricane Harvey, my classroom has been displaced to a new classroom that is not equipped with storage options. So, I'm also requesting storage bins to store our supplies. All of our supplies and manipulatives are in various boxes around the room, but are too easily accessible to anyone who is in the classroom. Since I share my classroom with other classes everyday, I am unable to keep guard of our belongings at all times. My students would benefit greatly from being able to store their supplies and manipulatives and not have to worry about them being unaccounted for.
