Water Feature for Sensory Garden/Outdoor Classroom

Help me give my students a splashing water feature for their sensory garden/outdoor classroom to provide them with a safe, soothing, and enriching environment where they can explore and regulate their senses.

My Project

We’re building a sensory garden to support the unique needs of our students with autism—and we’d love to include a small, calming fountain as part of this space.

A sensory garden is more than just plants—it's a healing, interactive space.

Adding a fountain would help make it even more welcoming and therapeutic for our students who need it most.

Many of our students experience the world differently: Sounds, lights, and even textures can feel overwhelming or distracting. A fountain offers a gentle, soothing sound that can help block out other overwhelming noises. The quiet bubbling of water acts like natural white noise, which can help our students feel calmer and more focused.

The movement of the water also gives them something peaceful to look at. Watching the ripples and reflections can be both relaxing and engaging—helping students feel more centered and grounded during the school day.

This is especially important for kids who have difficulty with self-regulation or who experience sensory overload. The fountain will be a quiet spot where they can take a break, reset, and return to the classroom more ready to learn and connect.
