Water Distiller For AP Chemistry

My students need a countertop water distiller for our chemistry lab.

My Students

My AP chemistry students learn the deeper meaning behind chemistry concepts when they can work in the lab to discover key concepts themselves. Distilled water is required for all of our chemistry involving solutions, acids and bases. Our distiller broke last year and we really need a new one.

My students are lifelong learners who love school and enjoy exploring science concepts in our lab.

Our school is a suburban school outside of Boston and our students are passionate about their school and community. My AP chemistry students can learn best when given the proper resources, but will do their best with what they have.

My Project

With a water distiller, my students and myself will never have to worry about running out of purified water. We often have to run to a local store to get more or limit what we can do in the lab. With ample distilled water, my students can do accurate acid-base titrations, learn about rates of aqueous reactions, and make batteries using chemical solutions. In the past, students could only do one trial because of limited water resources. Now they can do three trials which is suggested for best results.

When students have adequate resources for lab, they learn chemistry on a much deeper level.

With deeper learning comes higher AP chemistry scores. When students score 3+ on the AP chemistry exam they can earn college credit. Students who receive high scores can get into better colleges and also skip general chemistry courses. For schools who don't take AP chem scores for credits, students will already have a deeper understanding of chemistry and will have higher success rates freshman year
