Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds and 80% of our student population is considered socioeconomically disadvantaged. Our student diversity by percentage is, Black 73%, Hispanic 17%, White 6%, Asian 2%, American Indian/Alaska Native 1%, and Filipino <1%. What makes my students special is that they are highly creative and motivated. They approach projects with enthusiasm and tell me that they enjoy my classes.

Students like to draw and paint with materials that are of high quality, and these materials enable them to see that using paints, canvas and paper of substance makes a difference for the better in their art work.

The campus is extensive with two gymnasiums and eight main buildings, and we have an active sports program, cheer, Drill team and Drum line. My students are amazing and love a challenge.

My Project

We are requesting watercolor paint, and paper and canvas board so my students can make landscape paintings around our campus. My students have run out of water color paint and have never used guache water color paints. The vibrant colors and heavy paper will enable students to make amazing landscape paintings.

The right tools for the job always make a project memorable and the use of quality materials makes the result more meaningful for students.

Newsprint and low weight paper are for preliminary works, and my students are increasing their skill levels every day and require supplies which will augment their increased abilities. Every day I see breakthroughs, and these materials will keep the ball rolling.
