This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are happy giddy kids (Yes! Even the 13-year-olds) who come into my classroom ready for a learning adventure. I enjoy beginning part of their growth and success. Unfortunately, most of my students live in an area that is underdeveloped and with low funding. The majority of my students are low income and are part of the Free-Meal plan at school. When my kiddos enter my classroom, they know they have entered a safe place. My kiddos understand that the classroom is also their home and a place for them to be themselves without judgment. Having a happy and bright classroom encourages my kiddos to want to learn and explore subjects and topics they normally wouldn't encounter. I don't want society to dictate who they are. I want them to show society that they are more than "inner city students," I want them to show the world they are AWESOME HUMANS!

My Project

The 2020-2021 school year will be one for the books! My students will be distance learning and I will be teaching virtually. Students will receive virtual art lessons every day, but they are in need of the basic art supplies, in this case 15 students need drawing pencil kits and the entire class needs water coloring kits. The majority of our school has students on the free-lunch program and unfortunately, because of the pandemic, many of my student’s parents/guardians lost their jobs and cannot afford to purchase their children supplies. It is highly important to give the students the upmost normality to the school year. Art is their gateway to de-stress and for a second, forget what is going on in our world right now.
