My Project
In our classroom, we believe that compassion doesn’t always start with grand gestures—it begins with small, meaningful acts of care. This project will provide refillable water bottles for every student, ensuring that all of my learners have equal access to one of the most basic needs: hydration. But more than that, these bottles will be used as part of a broader lesson in empathy, equity, and self-care.
Many of our students come from homes where they may not have personal water bottles or consistent access to clean drinking water during the day.
By ensuring that everyone has their own reusable bottle, we are promoting not just health—but dignity, inclusion, and awareness of each other’s needs.
Students will participate in guided conversations and reflection activities about what it feels like to go without something essential—like water or food—and how those experiences can impact someone’s emotions, behavior, and ability to learn. We'll read stories and share personal experiences to help students understand the different challenges their classmates might face.
This project invites students to be part of the solution. With every water bottle distributed, we’ll talk about how meeting someone’s basic needs is one of the most compassionate things we can do. Students will be encouraged to look out for classmates who may need reminders to drink water or share supportive words when someone isn’t feeling well.
Success will be measured through weekly reflection prompts, class discussions, and student-created "compassion check-ins" where they identify kind actions they've taken or observed. I’ll also monitor student behavior—looking for increased kindness, peer support, and awareness of others’ needs. When students begin offering a water bottle to someone who forgot theirs, or speak up when they notice someone not feeling well, I’ll know they’re putting compassion into action.
