Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third grade teacher in a high poverty area.
My students enjoy talking about animals, like dogs and cats, but have never had the opportunity to have a pet because it is too cost prohibitive for their families. I would love for them to have the opportunity to take care of a pet so that they can learn to become responsible individuals.
It would really great to have a fish aquarium with goldfish for the students to watch, feed, and help care for.
In third grade, my students study animals, habitats and ecosystems in our science curriculum. What better way to learn about a freshwater ecosystem than to have an aquarium to observe what actually occurs in that ecosystem?
Students would get the opportunity to make observations about a freshwater ecosystem through daily activities such as feedings, cleaning the tank and fish life cycles.
My students would get first hand experiences in taking care of another living thing as well. Students would be assigned jobs based on the needs of the fish and their surroundings.
With the generous help of Donors Choose donors, this proposed freshwater ecosystem will bring the science classroom curriculum to life as well as teach my students to be responsible individuals. Please help me give my students a science activity that will last throughout the years.
