My Students

Our school is a NYC public school, diverse in all senses of the word.

40 Middle Schoolers, New York City kids born and bred, after school, tons of energy, finally convinced to leave their phones behind.

This is our track team.

Some athletes come prepared with the best running gear, others cannot afford it. I'm submitting this project in the hopes of equalizing that gap and ensuring that all students have the materials they need to reach their full fitness potential!

My Project

My track and field athletes do loops around Battery Park, miles up the east and west side, cross the BK bridge & back again, and zig zag the streets back to school. Without a track or a designated space where our team can have practice, we are forced to improvise. The streets of New York City provide a wonderful space, but with 40 athletes and one track coach, we need help! These watches will allow my more advanced and committed runners to go off in pairs or small groups to run greater distances than would otherwise be possible. They will help me plan workouts that will benefit them all. They will help us track our pacing and distances as they grow throughout the season. My hope is that these materials will support us as we continue to build life long habits of fitness and health, break personal records, and maybe even win some races along the way.
