This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to kindergarten! We are so excited to be in kindergarten this year. There are so many skills we are working on, and we are learning how to be independent. Some of the basic skills we teach in kindergarten, beyond the academic skills, are following directions, taking care of their surroundings, taking pride in their classroom and self advocating.

My students come from a low-income area, many without school/home support.

Our students receive breakfast and lunch every day at school, and school is a safe place for most of them.

My Project

When my students first start kindergarten, the current tables are too big for most of my students. As the year continues, those tables that were once too big for us become too small for our legs to fit under. We are in need of new tables that can grow with us throughout the year. I also like to use flexible seating in my classroom, and tables that can be used close to the floor, with large pillows, would greatly benefit my students.

We work so hard in kindergarten.

Many students have never been in school before, and we are working on our writing, reading and math skills. Having tables that can grow with us will greatly help us feel more comfortable and be more successful in school.
