Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are English language learners. Some are learning English as a new language this year. They try their best to learn and succeed every day. My students are English language learners from different countries. My students enjoy learning new skills. They try their best to learn. They always keep trying to learn the learning task! They are in a high needs school in the Bronx. They try to learn and succeed in second grade, but unfortunately, they lack some of the resources they need.

The collection of wordless picture books will help my students strengthen their vocabulary, speaking, and storytelling skills.

These books use detailed illustrations to tell a story, allowing students to create their own words, sentences, and dialogue as they “read” the pictures. Wordless books are especially powerful for bilingual students because they remove reading-level barriers and invite all learners to participate. In small groups or independently, my students will use these books to describe what they see, sequence events, and build rich oral language in both English and Spanish.

These wordless books will give my students access to meaningful, creative language practice. They’ll be able to imagine, describe, and tell stories in their own words, growing more confident as speakers and readers.
