This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love my job and I love my students. Not a day goes by that I am not smiling, laughing, and having a blast. Don't get me wrong, there are many sad and stressful parts of my job as a Title 1 third grade teacher. Many of my students have hard lives with many barriers, but nothing gets in their way or mine in making them life time learners.

Students in poverty don't have everything they need to be college and career ready, but I want to change that.

Through hands on learning, a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) focus, and a positive growth mind set, my students are on their way.

My Project

My students need to experience the changes organisms go through during their life. Last year I was given the gift of a butterfly and lady bug kit, but this year I need new larva (the butterfly and lady bug stage after eggs) So this year's class can see it in action. This year I want to add to our life science unit with a hydroponic fish tank . The students will grow veggies that are fertilized by fish and the fish live because of the plants. Your generous donation will literally make science come alive for these children.

Can you just see the excited faces of my 3rd graders as they watch their very own butterfly and lady bugs transform right before their eyes and their veggies grow because of their fish?

The NGSS standard, 3-LS1-1 states that third graders need to understand the life cycle of many different organisms.

These kits will help deepen my students learning experiences is a fun and exciting way.
