My students walk into Kindergarten so eager to learn and grow! They attend a Title I school in Virginia, which means most of the children come from single-family homes who are doing everything they can just to make ends meet.
When they come to school, it is my job to provide them with a warm, nurturing, safe place to learn.
In addition, I strive to provide them access to materials that they may not have available to them at home. With your donation, I can help my students become successful kindergartners!
My Project
Many of my students enter Kindergarten with underdeveloped schemas; they lack the life experiences and vocabulary often found in nonfiction text. These nonfiction books will help build their schemata with rebus picture support, repeated high-frequency words, and real-world topics that are presented with eye-popping photos that get students excited to learn.
I can teach early-reading skills and give my little learners confidence with engaging nonfiction books on their reading level!
Important vocabulary is included in every book to expose students to words they might not otherwise encounter, such as "nocturnal," "pilots," and "gusty." The books also help reinforce science and social studies topics to increase content-area knowledge and vocabulary.
Introducing nonfiction books at an early age gets students ready for the type of reading they'll be doing in grade school and beyond. So let's make it fun for them with these exciting books and watch their vocabularies soar!
