Watch Our Little Readers Grow!
My students need new books, shelving, and books with CDs to build the classroom library and listening library in order to help them grow into successful readers.
Kindergarten is a time to learn and grow. My little readers are eager to learn and explore through reading and listening.
We are part of a small charter school.
We have students from various cultural, language, and economic backgrounds. Our class is excited to learn to read and become lifelong learners. Each day we spend time reading books, learning new letters, and using our listening center. Our students are encouraged to become aware of and accepting of all cultures and languages. Our Kindergarten students are part of a full day program that allows them to learn many different subjects including language arts, math, science, social studies, as well as two significant world languages.
We are requesting a new bookshelf and books to build our small classroom library. Many of these new books are of high interest topics to my students and also help to expose students to multicultural literature. We are also requesting additional books and CDs, as well as an organizing shelf, for our listening center. These items will help to keep our center organized while also providing the students with new stories to read and listen to. We will use these items daily. By building our listening library, as well as our classroom library, we want to help students to grow and flourish in Kindergarten. We will be able to encourage this growth by exposing students to various culturally significant texts, literature about high interest topics, and books with CDs that that help to build listening skills. The students in our classroom come from many different backgrounds, and in many cases Kindergarten is one of the few places they are exposed to reading materials like the ones requested.
This project is important for our classroom because the students need to have exposure to many different types of books.
With the students in our class representing varying cultural, language, and economic backgrounds, these materials will help to reach each and every student. This project will greatly impact the literacy education of all students in the classroom. This will help our classroom to become confident readers and encourage a lifelong love of literature and learning.
