My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income title I school. Many of my students have a Caribbean background where English is not their first language and part of their family is still living in another country. We start our day with breakfast in the classroom and many students receive free lunch. They are constantly faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many do not have a stable home life and look to the classroom as a place of refuge.

Despite the many challenges they face, I constantly try to provide a loving, respectful, meaningful and fun learning experience for them.

Every day my students come in cheerful, ready to give hugs and are eager to learn. My students constantly work together as part of a learning community. I want to continue to provide an excellent education with as many resources as I can so they can continue to be life-long learners.

My Project

Many of my students have never seen a butterfly up close or have any connection to a butterfly. In Science we are learning about animal life cycles and it is hard for these students without a personal connection. Through the gift of these butterfly towers four kindergarten classes will be able to see the life cycle of a butterfly first hand. They will be responsible for taking care, monitoring, and recording their observations of the changes these butterflies go through from caterpillars to setting butterflies free. Please give these children an opportunity to learn first hand about butterflies. Give them a chance to have a fantastic, memorable, and fun science experience.
