Each child in our school absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best, varies greatly. We incorporate a multitude of learning strategies which include group work, alternative seating, and flexible learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met right where they are! Our PVA students are truly an incredible group and we are grateful for the opportunity to help these students learn and grow each and every year!
Our students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions!
They absolutely love engaging in hands-on/active projects. They welcome challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! Each student comes to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are our inspiration to continue to serve the whole child in the most creative ways possible!
My Project
We will be incorporating tower gardening into our curriculum! Not only will we grow fruits and vegetables; we will also grow students’ math, science, language arts, and social studies abilities. We will also be promoting student responsibility and healthy eating.
This garden isn’t an ordinary garden with soil; it’s a Tower Garden—a hydroponic tower of veggies we can care for and consume!
This earth-friendly approach uses less water and space than soil gardens. Plus we can grow produce all year round.
What’s a Tower Garden?
Tower Gardens are vertical. This setup grows plants in air rather than soil. The sides of the tower have pockets for seeds and the base holds a mix of water and nutrients that are sent up inside the tower via a pump. The water drips down onto the roots of the plants in a science called aeroponics. Along with water, the plants get consistent light to grow well.
We will cover educational concepts within our curriculum, beginning with parts of a plant, how plants grow, nutrition, fertilization, seed to table, and so much more!
This will be an amazing asset to our new and continually growing school.
