This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My kindergarten students are learning to read, write, and manipulate language. For this to happen, the students need a systematic, hands-on approach to phonics. The items in my cart will be taught in small groups and be the perfect supplement to our whole-group phonics program. The items span a vast number of topics and will allow for our small groups to be differentiated based on their needs. They will allow for my students to have various hands-on options while learning through the Science of Reading.
Students are eager to become readers and crave instruction to do so.
These items will allow my students to learn to read and view themselves as readers while having fun with the manipulatives at the same time. Students will work in small groups manipulating sounds and words to build their foundation of early literacy skills.
We have so many small pieces to the reading puzzle, these manipulatives would be the cohesive tie to putting all the pieces together. The more we build our students' early literacy skills the more likely they will become students who excel at reading. I hope that this strong foundation will also help turn students into voracious readers. Thank you for supporting the love of reading for our youngest learners!
