Ms. Smith from Portsmouth VA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the opportunity to get back to reading books again. No kindle, no iPads, just good ole hardback/paperback books. They need to learn the enjoyment of reading.

My students are 6th graders at our school. They are extremely hard workers and strive to do their best at all times. They have excelled in mastering the Virginia Standards of Learning and helping our school become fully accredited for another year.
Even though we are a Title 1 school, an urban school, and many of our students receive free and reduced lunch, we do not let that stop us from letting the world know we are smart, and we do not let small bumps knock us down.
Many of my students do not have the best home environment, but they continuously come to school each day eager and ready to learn. Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, other health impairment and specific learning disabilities, as well as, English as a second language students. These students are our future doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, and many other career options, and they need the tools/resources to be successful.
This project will allow students to enjoy reading and be able to use their imagination and creativity to visualize what they are reading from their viewpoint. Kids hate reading so we will read the book together and understand what is going on and then compare it to the movie to compare/contrast, state the problem/solution and to break down all the literary elements of a story. This will also help students with reading skills and also help them to learn to enjoy reading together as a class. Please help fund this project for my students; they truly need it more than ever.
