Watch Me Learn, Watch Me RE-Vibe

My students need a vibrating, simple wristwatch to help them to be able to self-monitor their on task behaviors. This will help my students focus without having to be prompted by an adult.

My Students

"Oh cool! It's a five!" "Wow! I never knew that before!" These types of exclamations are typical coming from the my classroom.

My students love to learn and giggle or exclaim with excitement when learning new facts.

I teach in an autism program in a Title 1 school. I am passionate about what I do, and strive to do whatever I can to help my students reach their potential.

Since all of my students have autism, they are all working on academic goals in addition to behavior, social, and communication goals. I work hard to include behavior, social, and communication goals into academic work and to help prepare my students to be able to function independently in school and their neighborhoods.

My Project

All of my students are working both on academic skills and behavior skills. All of my students also need extra support in learning how to be organized as well as how to demonstrate safe, "expected" behaviors in the classroom and other settings.

Instead of relying on adult support to help students focus on behavior goals, the RE-Vibe will help students monitor their own behavior.

My students love to chart their progress on graphs, in order to see their progress toward their goals. While some students benefit from adult prompts in their general education settings, some of my students are embarrassed by having an adult stand near them all day to help them focus and complete independent work. The RE-Vibe will be a simple, discrete way for students to still receive the prompts they may need to stay on task, but not rely on an adult to do this. I know that it will help my students to feel more in control of and take more ownership of their behaviors.

By learning the skill of using a tool to help monitor their own behaviors, my students are better prepared to become more successful, independent students and adults.
