By donating to our project you will not only assist out students in areas of health and wellness. You will improve their mental health and feelings of warmth by showing them how much the community cares about them. The use of a washer and dryer be a daily occurrence for the health office. Our elementary has two pre-school and two Kindergarten classrooms. Our entire student body is approximately 260 students, of which 75% qualify for the federal governments free and reduced lunch program.
Due to the age in the pre-school and kindergarten classrooms, there are quite a few spills and urinary accidents that occur throughout the school day.
Parents are asked prior to school to place a change of clothing to be kept in their students backpack in-case they require a change of clothing throughout the school day. This does not always occur. Our schools population may have a limited supply of clothing at home due to financial constraints and /or the limited availability of a washer. Our Health Office receives donated clothing throughout the year. However, the supply is very limited. There are times we do struggle to find the appropriate sized clothing for a student to wear. Having a washer and dryer available at the school would allow us to wash, dry, and return the student's original clothing prior to them leaving the school grounds.
There are also time that a student arrives at school in dirty clothing that may even smell. Having a washer and dryer would allow the Health Office to wash, dry and return the students clothing. It pulls at my heart strings to see a student smile because a student is able to put on a clean pair of clothing prior to going to class, then wearing their clean clothing home.
